At the end of May, in the presence of the Cape Verde authorities and the delegation of the African Development Bank, the launch of the construction of the new port of Maio was inaugurated which will allow, within 2 years, to accommodate daily passenger and freight boats.
An infrastructure essential to the controlled development of the long awaited island.
Indeed, if Maio’s development has lagged quite relative, it should be noted that this has enabled the island to avoid being too deeply and quickly modified like its sisters Sal and Boa Vista.
We must salute the courageous choice to structure maritime transport first. It’s strategic in more ways than one. It will allow tourism to grow more in line with the ecological specificities, social and cultural relations and the economic needs of the population.
The new port will allow more modern, economical and faster boats to connect Praia-Maio daily in just 45 minutes with better conditions for docking, loading and unloading of cargo and passenger safety.
We are all impatient to take the first boat to arrive in this new port.
